Credit note

A credit note is a document a seller issues to reduce the amount on an invoice already issued — for returns, overcharges, discounts after sale, or cancelled supplies.

It reduces the seller's output tax and the buyer's input tax claim, and should reference the original invoice. A debit note does the opposite, increasing the amount.
