Pro forma invoice

Also called: Proforma invoice

A pro forma invoice is a preliminary bill sent before a sale is final, setting out what the buyer will be charged. It isn't a tax invoice and can't be used to claim GST or VAT.

It's used to arrange advance payment, internal approval or customs paperwork. Once goods are supplied or paid for, the seller issues a tax invoice. Use a separate number series from tax invoices.
