Shrinkage

Also called: Inventory shrinkage, Stock loss

Shrinkage is inventory recorded in your books that is no longer physically there — lost to theft, damage, spoilage, or recording and receiving errors.

It's usually measured as a percentage of sales or of inventory value, from the gap between counted stock and recorded stock.

FORMULA

Shrinkage rate = (recorded inventory − counted inventory) ÷ recorded inventory × 100
