FEFO (first expired, first out)

Also called: FEFO

FEFO is a picking rule that sells or ships the batch with the earliest expiry date first, whatever order it arrived in.

It's standard for food, pharma and cosmetics, where FIFO alone can leave a short-dated batch on the shelf behind a newer one. It needs batch numbers and expiry dates recorded at receiving.

FEFO is about physical stock movement; it's separate from how you value inventory in your accounts.
